      PM-EGGS
I know that many people have written about the wonderful world of Price Matchin, but just recently I found myself knowing that Target had a great price on eggs and I wanted to use the Walmart Price Match guarantee.  Thankfully I always research policies before using them because during my first price match expeience I learned a few things to keep in mind when using Price Match Guarantees at stores, some of which was frustrating.

Not taking any consideration into the fact that Minnesota has temporarily returned to a cold tundra, blechh!

    New Life of Easter

eastrHow would you respond if someone asked you what planting seeds meant to you?

Does it mean dropping seeds in the ground, or is there much more to creating new life?

“A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them. Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprang up since they had no depth of soil, but when the sun rose they were scorched. And since they had no root, they withered away. Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. Other seeds fell on good soil and produced grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. He who has ears,[a] let him hear.” – Matthew 13:3-9 (ESV)

soaking            Jesus’ parable of the sower illustrates well that we are to sow seeds everywhere. Many times these seeds may not survive. Just as your vegetable seeds may not all survive, especially when you are first getting started. As Christians, we are granted New Life by the death and resurrection of Christ our Lord, which we are celebrating today on Easter Sunday. However, to someone who does not know Christ and has not taken part in His food, then they have not received new life; much as a garden seed without proper seed preparation, nutrients and planting also shall not receive life. Starting a garden will be a time-consuming task, but it bears great rewards. As we celebrate Easter we should pray and reflect on whether we are planting spiritual seeds or not. The seeds we plant as Christians will bear much greater results than any earthly garden plant and we are called by Christ to be sowers of his word.

“And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.”               – Mark 16:15

How then shall we prepare? We can see planting spiritual seeds are similar to garden seeds in that they are all planted differently according to each circumstance and individual.  Each seed needs different attention.

    • Whether small, large or hard-shelled soaking seeds prior to planting brings helps the new life to succeed..
    • As specified by the Sprout People, “sprout people.”
      • As Christian’s we also need to help soak our spiritual seeds in the word of God to help end their dormancy in the death brought about when sin entered the world…(different ways for different people.)
    • Planting the small seeds is a very tender process. . do you know individuals that need that gentle spiritual seed?
      • That tender process starts simply by placing small seeds on a coffee filter, towel, or paper soaked with water and topping with an additional coffee filter on top of the seeds and allow to soak in the water for about a day. There are other methods of soaking seeds which might work better for you.
    • Planting the LARGER Hard SHELLED Seeds is a little rougher
      • To help the seed soak in water better, Scratch the surface of the seed in one place with a small nail, file or small knife this will allow water into the seed to breathe new life into it.
      • Much like the Hard Shelled seeds, many people have a little bit of a harder surface that needs to be ‘scratched’ to let the New Life in
    • Understanding the different approaches to plant spiritual seeds as a Christian is vital to reaching individuals with the proper nutrients and soil for people to germinate into their New Life.

Once you have soaked the seed, the tougher part begins. As our seeds will not grow without the proper environment and only wither and die, so will the spiritual seeds we plant as Christians. The seeds planted in Jesus’ when not provided proper depth to soils, spring up fast but wither just as quickly. In our relationships with others, we need more than just to sow our seeds, we need to prepare for rain and build relationships as well as sowing the spiritual seeds. We need to provide them with room to grow roots. Spiritual seeds rely on friends and communities surrounding them deepen rather than wither. If you only provide spiritual seeds but then put them in a culture of filth without the proper quantity of spiritual soil, they too will burn out in the culture of today.  Check back next week for my article about soilprep.

How have you been planting spiritual seeds? Do you have other tips to preparing for your garden?

    Saving Scraps

    savescraps

Not too long ago I discussed the many uses of  bfat3.  This week while working on my blog, John 6:12, “And when they had eaten their fill, he told his disciples, “Gather up the leftover fragments, that nothing may be lost”, compelled me to linger on leftovers and scraps just a little bit longer, on not wasting what God has so abundantly given to us. Jesus’ display after feeding the 5,000 gave a perfect example of being thankful in the little things, the scraps as well.

10 Things To do for your wife for Valentine’s Day

    vday

What are you doing special for your Wife?

As many dedicated husbands like myself know “Happy Wife, Happy Life”! Here are some ways I found to treat my wife special on Valentine’s Day and any other time of the year.  10 sure fire ways to make sure your wife knows how much you love her.  Some might ask why this is so important. Ephesians I believe says it best.
Ephesians 5:25-28 says it best, “ Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.[a] 28 In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.” (ESV) Verse 28 really sends it home for me as a husband,.

    1. Massages/Rubs:Rub her feet, her back, wherever she always craves to receive a massage. Don’t just give here a basic massage, truly treat her with candles and some special lotion or oils. This is the one day out of the year just dedicated to LOVE so pull out the stops.  If she has a favorite lotion, try to get that specific lotion for her.
     romanticdinner
    2. Dinner:  Make sure she doesn’t have to plan the food. Just taking the pressure off her for having to pick the food or cook the food will help her relax. Make it extra special by creating a culinary cuisine that will really tease her taste buds. If you’re not that good at cooking then pick up her favorite take out.  Again don’t skimp on dinner whether you make it or pick it up.  If you can prepare the table with the nice dishes and some candles to set the mood of a romantic dinner.

    3. Notes: leave her little notes to find through the night or day telling her of your love.  If you write poems you can leave these as well.

    4. Chick Flick: Okay so how many guys want to watch a chick flick.  Okay well mostly there is probably just me, but today on Valentine’s Day, let her pick the movie. If it’s a chick flick watch it with her and DON’T COMPLAIN.  Remember that no complaining today.

    5. Dessert: If you don’t know it now, find out what her favorite dessert is.  Bring home her favorite dessert, but make it elaborate.  If she likes ice cream sundaes, go all out with her favorite toppings (elegant preparation, NOT quantity), if she just wants a brownie maybe make/cut it into a heart. Make it special.
     Sorry-Closed-Sign
    6. Time Out: If possible take off from all possible distractions from the day if you can.  Turn off your phone, stop thinking about the bills, the school
work you have to finish, the work left undone at your job, the friends, the family, take a complete break and focus on her.
     roses
    7. Flowers: Most women love to receive flowers. Now take it from me, you don’t need a special occasion to give your wife flowers, but on Valentine’s make sure you plan for some flowers. VITAL TO FLOWERS: Put in effort in buying the flowers, don’t just pick them out from the Kwik Trip flower spot.  Pick out her favorites from a nice florist or a grocery store that provides nice flowers. Make it count, not just the half hearted effort, they know!
     Gerald-G-Rubber-Duck-1
    8. Bath: No this isn’t for you…  Clean up the bathtub area and prepare some candles, flower petals, and some special bath bubbles or soap.  Give her the bath she has been aching for the last several weeks.  Give her some alone time, or take a nice bath/shower with her if she desires. If you bathe together providing her with more gentle massaging.  Baths & showers are great opportunity for sensual shoulder, leg or back rubs.
     dishwasher
    9. Chores: OH NO!  I am not suggesting that you make her do chores.  I am suggesting that you take over some of the daily chores like washing dishes and cleaning up after eating. Give her a little break.  I know you may feel the desire for a break as well, but show her YOUR love by taking the small burden of simple chores like this.  Another option is sharing the burden and to do them together (playing when doing dishes can be A LOT of fun).
     queen
    10. SPOILED: This is the most important of them all.  Just SPOIL her. Treat her likE the Queen she really is.  If you want your wife to know you love her, make sure you don’t just do it half way. Do the simple things to, make sure you open doors for her if you go anywhere. Give her your jacket if she is getting a little chilly, be chivalrous and a gentleman.  Every little thing you do adds up and makes you the knight and shining armor she is looking for.
You can check out some of my successes over on my post How to be an Awesome #FrugalValentine!

But women now your time to weigh in?

What do you find to be the sweetest thing that your husband has done for you?

    Late New Years Resolution

As Valentine’s Day grows ever closer I will be spending more of my time trying to come up with the most creative Valentine’s Day dates and ways to surprise my wife. As I work on this I will be preparing to put out a list on February 7th of at least 10 special dates or ways to surprise your spouse or wife as frugally as possible. This should still be plenty of time for you saps out there to make the most of Valentine’s Day.

Well the New Year is already in full swing and I have been working to squeeze in time to write up a little something about New Year’s resolutions. I think everyone has some sort of New Year’s Resolutions, but personally I don’t like calling mine resolutions, but simply goals. I think planning S.M.A.R.T. Goals is a much better game plan and more specific so I feel that I will be more likely to complete them than the typical resolution. As I typically do I decided to create a new printable for my goals. So check out the goals I have listed below so far and my printable.

If you like the SMART goals form then check it out as an editable on Etsy.com or you can write up your goals following this simple acronym:

    Specific – What
Measurable – How can I tell it’s complete (Saved $1000, etc)
Attainable – Is it realistic? (Unrealistic – fly to moon, etc)
    Relevant – Why?
Time – When will it be done?

    Editable-SMART-Goals

Although I have all sorts of little goals that I have throughout the year I don’t think that I shall bore you with them all. The one main thing I work on through January is preparing for my finances throughout the year and one of the best ways for me is utilizing a simple Annual Bill Tracker so every month I can cross off a bill when it is paid or mark it as auto paid. NOW UNTIL END OF JANUARY my personal Annual Bill Tracker will be downloaded below.

    EasyAnnualBillTracker

Keep an eye out the next couple of months I will be working to release my new eBook called Home Made Dads, which is going to be small mini books the first one is supposed to be a quick kitchen guide to help busy dad’s when they’re in a pinch for time or ingredients to help them get food on the table. Watch for the sneak peak and if you comment on this post, tell me what your New Year’s goals or resolutions, and I will put you in a drawing to win a printable package and the opportunity to help provide feedback for the unfinished book. Keep tuned for more as the tax season comes around I will be working on more printables like I do every time I need a new
